The rehearsal and Yule dinner went off without a hitch. Having Celeste present made it even more special. I kissed Alex goodbye next to The Spellmoore fountain out front with a promise to see him later that evening.

“I saw Zoie’s gift on your mom’s counter,” Needles said as he settled down in the back of Mom’s car. “She’s going to love it.”

“I hope she does,” I said. “Every witch needs her own cauldron. Mom and GiGi got her some candles and a couple crystals.”

Mom slid behind the wheel of her car, turned over the engine, and pulled out of the resort’s parking lot. “I can’t wait to get out of this dress and into something more comfortable.”

“What time are Serena, Aunt Starla, and GiGi coming over?” I asked.

“After they change clothes at Starla’s,” Mom said. “I’m glad GiGi is staying in town until after the wedding.”

I grinned. “She’s talked nonstop about the bachelorette party tomorrow night. I think GiGi plans on getting her groove on.”

Mom groaned. “Please don’t ever say those words aloud again.”

Needles laughed from the back.

“I checked the weather for Saturday,” I said. “We may get snow during the wedding.”

“That’ll be pretty,” Mom said. “We are so blessed to be witches. Not many people can have an outdoor wedding in the snow and not feel a single flake.”

“Thanks to your magic. You’re sure you can hold the shield for that many hours? Through both the wedding and reception?”

Mom patted my knee. “I’ve got it. Don’t you worry. Plus, a couple other witches offered to help as well.”

We drove the rest of the way home in silence. I thought about the case and the arrest we were about to make in the morning. I wasn’t sure if the proof was enough I could call in my ex-partner, Zane, from the Paranormal Apprehension and Detention Agency to take Brody away, or if Brody would have to be prosecuted through the supernatural courts. Zane was called for supernaturals caught red-handed committing violent acts or murder. We really just had a bunch of circumstantial evidence against Brody, but it was enough for attempted murder.

By the time we arrived back at Mom’s, I had my second wind. Serena, Aunt Starla, and GiGi came over and we celebrated Yule by making wreaths and eating a ton of leftover desserts from Serena’s reject wedding pile.

“What time are you meeting up with Grant tonight?” I asked Serena as the two of us finished drying dishes.

“I’m not. We’re trying to not be alone with each other until the day of the wedding.”

“Seriously?” I placed the stack of china plates in Mom’s hutch. “That’s commendable.”

Serena snorted. “It was Mom’s idea.”

Needles let out a loud snore from his position on the counter.

“That porcupine can sleep anywhere,” Serena joked.

“Listen, I’m not meeting Alex until around ten. Mom, Aunt Starla, and GiGi took a bottle of wine with them into the living room, so we won’t be seeing them until the morning. I’d like to do a little stakeout tonight.”

I quickly filled her in on the arrest we were about to make in the morning, and why we were waiting.
